Self-Care Necessities to Get You Through Quarantine
Let’s be real, time’s are tough right now. The world is a mess and it’s easy to get swept up in all the chaos. That’s why self-care is more important now than ever. Lucky for you, I’ve gathered some of my beauty and health self-care necessities that have been getting me through this time.
Chemical Exfoliants
Exfoliating is one of the most important things you can do for your skin, it removes dead skin, improves texture, and reduces dark spots to create overall healthier, glowier, and smoother skin. But with exfoliating, not all options are created equal. Traditional abrasive exfoliants like face scrubs can be harsh on skin and create micro-tears, making your skin more vulnerable to environmental damage, pollution, and sun damage. That’s why I switched to chemical exfoliants a few months ago. Chemical exfoliants provide all the benefits of exfoliating, without the irritation. Chemical exfoliants can make you slightly more sensitive to the sun, but it’s quarantine, you’re pretty much stuck inside anyway :)
Face Masks
Face masks? For self-care? Groundbreaking.
Jokes aside, who doesn’t love a good face mask? Redness, clogged pores, dry skin, you name it, there’s a face mask to address it. With all the extra time we have, why not spend a few more minutes taking care of your skin? So whatever skin problem you want to address, pick up your mask, pour a glass of wine, and enjoy.
Wellness
As fun as exfoliants and face masks are, there’s so much more to taking care of yourself than just your skin or external appearance. There are hundreds of articles detailing the benefits of working out and staying active, so why not put your best foot forward and take care of yourself from the inside out? During quarantine I’ve made it a priority to work out at least once a day, no matter how short it may be.
My favorites during this time have been Barry’s Bootcamp’s Instagram workouts and Melissa Wood Health. With stay at home orders in place, Barry’s has been offering free 20-30 minutes via their Instagram stories. All of the workouts are saved in their Instagram highlights, so you can do them at any time, and require little to no equipment. Melissa Wood Health $9.99 per month, but you can try it out for one week free. Her workouts are mainly low impact yoga and pilates, with a ton of variety to target different parts of the body. It’s recommended to do her workouts five to six times a week… consistency is key! But with a lot of the workouts being around twenty minutes or under it’s easy to fit it into even your busiest days!
