Makeup Artists Spill Their Favorite Photoshoot Ready Products

Megan Kelly

“No matter the look, I strive for luscious and perfected but REALISTIC skin. With the proper approach to skin care, I’m able to use less product with precise application that allows the beauty of my client’s skin show through. Weleda Skin Food never fails to bring radiance and moisture to the skin. It doubles as a primer and makeup wears beautifully overtop. I keep powder to a minimum, only placing where needed. For an extra ounce of luminosity I love to layer RMS Living Luminizer to the high points of the face and center of the eyelids.”

“As far my #1 thing on set for making sure things go well is...setting powder. It's needed for many steps in a makeup process. Anything from Coty Airspun to Ben Nye's Luxury Powder- it's a must in any makeup artist's kit!”

“My favorite way to take photoshoot makeup into your daily life is using this pro skin hack.

I love mixing my foundation with moisturizer to create the perfect glowing skin finish. I would suggest Nars Sheer Glow Foundation and Embryolisse Lait creme concentre. You can mix in equal proportions starting dime size to a dime size. You can also do a second round for more coverage.

Another great use is to add more moisturizer to the foundation to lighten the tone of your foundation if it happens to be a bit darker. This is a great way to repurpose your summer foundation to your winter foundation.

If your skin happens to be on the more oily side, I would start with a mattifying primer. I would suggest Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Shine Gel.”

“My all time favorite product for a perfect photoshoot look would have to be the Hourglass Vanish Stick Foundation because it can be manipulated to be any foundation type (dewy, matte, etc.). It is also super lightweight.”
