How to Spice Up Your Instagram Post-Quarantine

If I see one more mirror selfie in sweats, I might cry.

Yes I’m being dramatic, but even so, if you’re guilty of participating in this phenomenon, it’s not entirely your fault. Selfies just seem to be the natural reaction to months spent self-isolating. I think that most of us can agree that we’d like to see a bit more scenic diversity as we scroll through our Instagram feeds, so I’m providing a few ideas to spice up your Insta game as the world begins to open up again.

Content Ideas

First, you’ll want to post a photo that stands out. We’ve spent months scrolling through selfies staged in bedrooms. We’re over it.

  • All dressed up (& finally somewhere to go): Show off that dress you’ve been dying to wear for months with a picture featuring your local vineyard, pretty patio, botanical garden - you pick.

  • Group photo: as long as you’re all healthy and down for the huddle, grab your squad and show Instagram just how much you missed your girls (or guys).

  • Scenery: Weekend getaway to the beach, mountains or lake? Post the sunset because why not?

  • Amateur foodie: it’s been a minute since you’ve seen a meal on a plate that isn’t your own. Show off that fabulous presentation only our favorite restaurants can pull off.

  • MOTD: Yep, that’s right - Mask Of The Day. We’re all a little too familiar with the #OOTD post, but let’s change it up with this new, very relevant acronym.

For a little bit of added flair, try using one of these apps:

  • For fun artistic effects and collages:

    • PicsArt

    • Pixlr

  • For amazing filters and preset downloads:

    • VSCO

    • Tezza

    • Lightroom

  • For a more vintage look:

    • Disposable

    • VHS Cam (Video)

Feed Planning

With more places to go, we can afford to be a little bit more picky about the pictures we’re posting. Maybe you even want to start consistently posting photos that follow a certain theme (high-fashion, natural, urban, beachy - you name it). If you want to achieve an aesthetically pleasing “flow” on your profile, try using an app that will lay out your photos before you post. A few good ones are:

  • UNUM

  • Preview

Get out there and get posting! (As long as you’re staying safe.)
