What To Pack For A Cold Weather Vacation
Whether you’re heading to a friend’s ski house, renting an Airbnb in the woods, planning a staycation in your city, or off to visit a relative up north, winter packing can be tough. When dressing for cold weather, you simply need a bigger volume of clothing, including boots and coats, which can take up a ton of space. I am going to walk your through my favorite things to pack for a cold weather vacation, but my main advice is to layer.
Shoes
Shoes are my weakness. I have so many pairs, and I always like to switch up my shoes based on my outfit. I am definitely not someone who has a go-to pair I wear with everything. So, when it comes to packing, it’s super easy for me to overpack, especially since shoes take up so much room. For the cold, I love boots because they are warm and versatile. When going on a cold weather vacation, I try to pick one pair of boots to bring that can be worn casually but also at nighttime. This year, combat boots are my favorite. I like to wear my boots while traveling to and from my destination so I don’t have to try and fit them in my bag. Then, in my luggage, I pack a pair of cute and comfortable sneakers. I try to keep it to just these two pairs of shoes, but normally end up shoving one extra pair in my bag at the last minute.
Jackets
I have the same rule for jackets that I do for shoes: wear your bulkiest item while traveling to and from your vacation. Trying to pack a big fluffy jacket leaves no room for any other clothes, so try to wear a warm jacket, and then pack a thinner jacket, like a leather jacket, for layering and nighttime wear.
Sets
I love sweater-type loungewear sets because they are warm and cozy, and because they can be mixed and matched. The sweater top of your set is the perfect layering piece for under cardigans and jackets, plus it can double as pajamas when you get home and switch out your jeans for the pants in the set.
Pants
I love to bring a pair of leggings, leather pants, and jeans on vacation because they can be switched around with a few tops to create endless looks. Leather pants are perfect for going out at night, but also give off a cool and put-together vibe when worn with a hoodie. When it’s cold out, comfort is key and you cannot go wrong with a pair of black leggings. And then pack your favorite pair of jeans, because, duh.
Sweaters
When packing sweaters, keep it extremely neutral. A black, grey, or nude sweater can be worn every day with a different pair of pants, shoes, or accessory to switch up your look. Bring a neon beanie to spice up your basic layered outfit.
