My Favorite New England Getaway Spots
As someone who grew up in New England, I know first-hand that there are countless beautiful getaway spots within driving distance. In a time when flying isn’t very safe, taking a local getaway to one of these gorgeous northeast towns is a great way to squeeze as much as you can out of the last bit of summer. Here are my personal favorites…
Rockport, Maine - The Samoset
This waterfront resort has amazing golf, a pool with breathtaking views, a delicious restaurant, and is near an adorable town with cool stores. Take a walk out on the jetty, which is almost a mile each way, but make sure a storm isn’t rolling in or you will be stranded in torrential rain at the far end of the jetty like I was!
New Castle, New Hampshire - Wentworth by the Sea
Wentworth by the Sea is a great spot to relax, go to the spa, and do some outlet shopping at the nearby outlets in Kittery, Maine. It’s also very close and accessible from the Boston area.
Jay, Vermont - Jay Peak
Jay Peak is my go-to ski trip destination in the winter. But, it’s also amazing in the summer if you want to hike, golf, or just breath in the fresh mountain air.
Wolfeboro, New Hampshire - Lake Winnipesaukee
I am not usually a lake girl, as I’m more of an ocean type of girl, but Lake Winnipesaukee is the exception. This expansive lake is 71 square miles, and there are tons of little towns surrounding all sides of the lake. My personal favorite spot is on the eastern side of the water, in Wolfeboro. Wolfeboro is a cute town with a spattering of stores and restaurants with beautiful lakes views. If you can, try to stay right on the lake. I love the change of scenery, and stay in a classic cabin on the water. We spend most of the day out on the water boating, water skiing, and jet skiing. It’s so much fun!
Chatham, Cape Cod - Chatham Bars Inn
I grew up going to Cape Cod and love so many different Cape towns, but Chatham has it all. There are great beaches, shops, restaurants, and the Chatham Bars Inn is stunning. It’s definitely a special occasion getaway.
Edgartown, MA - The Harborview Hotel
If you’ve read most of my articles on C&W, you can probably figure out that I spend my summers on Martha’s Vineyard. The Harborview Hotel is a great spot with water views and a quick walk to downtown. Plus, the restaurant there is great!
