An Open Letter to a Wishful Traveler
Dear Wanderlust-Stricken Traveler,
I know what you’re thinking. “I hate how the entire world is stuck in the confines of our homes. I hate how I’m quarantining in the suburbs when I could be stuck on the Amalfi coast. Why do I live here when I can live in the beautiful streets of Paris?”… and other questions like that.
Let me begin by saying, I understand how you’re probably feeling because I’m feeling it too. I wish I could be in a small loft apartment in New York City, opening my windows to hear the loud cheers and applause for all of the front-line workers at this time. Such a beautiful thing it is, and I wish I was there too.
I’m writing to you because you can’t lose faith. The world will blossom again, airplanes will be packed with excited travelers, and saddened travelers returning home. You need to hold faith that you will be roaming the streets of a new beautiful city, exploring in the trenches of a jungle, swimming in a new sea, or shopping on decadent streets lined with beautiful boutiques. Stay inspired, and don’t be disheartened that your vacation may have been moved because of how the world is right now.
Think about it in a positive light: you now have so much time to plan the most amazing getaway. Your time right now is unlimited. You can look through Pinterest for inspiring photos from where you want to travel. Start pinning each photo for a Pinterest board created for that vacation. Google “things to do” in that city, “best-hidden restaurants” in that city. And now, you can focus on saving money for this trip instead of spending beforehand.
Visualize yourself there. Close your eyes and imagine yourself there. A smile will be brought to your face because it is such a pure and magical thought, that will come to life as soon as you plan for it. Look up videos on YouTube to get inspired, from bloggers who have been in the footsteps you aspire to be in.
Please hold hope and plan away for that destination you deeply wish to be at. The dreaming, the planning, and the excitement will be worth it.
X,
Jolie Zindman
