New Year's Eve 'Fits To Start 2021 With A Bang
With only a few days left in 2020, it’s time to start thinking about the ‘fit you’re going to rock to ring in the New Year.
It may not be the best time to plan a wild night of celebrating and kissing a stranger at midnight (wear your mask!) but there’s never been a more exciting year to say goodbye to. So, if you’re like me and not planning on going anywhere on December 31st, there’s no reason to not get dressed up anyway. Maybe even snap a few pics for the ‘gram! Here are some fool-proof outfit formulas to pull together the sparkliest, most festive NYE outfit this year.
SUIT SET + CORSET
Menswear-inspired suiting is a trend that is here to stay, so take a page out of the boys’ book and rock a blazer/trousers combo. A vintage corset has become one of my favorite layering pieces for a hint of lace to bring femininity to a boxy blazer or wide-leg trouser, but a bodysuit or longline bra works in a pinch for the same effect.
GO MONOCHROME
A full monochrome outfit is one of the simplest ways to pull together a polished outfit. Go for the same color top and bottom, but with different textures, whether that’s velvet, denim, mesh, or your softest, fluffiest cropped sweater: as seen on Kendall Jenner. The statement shoe that you bought to wear on your bravest days becomes just another aspect of a bold head-to-toe look when you’re rocking a single color for the night.
LEATHER + MINI
Nothing says “ringing in the new year” like a mini skirt! Pair a long-sleeved bodysuit, crop top or thin sweater with a leather mini skirt and sheer black tights for a classic ensemble. Or, pair a leather mini dress with a flimsy button-down shirt, a la Cher Horowitz from Clueless. Go vegan or secondhand for your leather pieces to put your dollar towards sustainable clothing items.
GLITZ + LITTLE BLACK DRESS
When all else fails, reach for the little black dress that every woman deserves to have in her wardrobe (no matter how frequently you actually reach for it). New Year’s Eve is the perfect occasion to pump up the volume on the glitz and glitter, whether that means a sequin mini dress or sparkly accessories. Go sheer if you dare! In a pinch, your best-fitting denim and a black top with glitter accents can create the perfect “I just threw this on” look that strikes a harmonious balance as casual and chic.
