DIY: Painting Denim
Have an old pair of jeans you no longer gravitate towards?
Painting denim is not only super easy, but fun and therapeutic as well. After looking at one particular pair of jeans in my closet for nine months and choosing just about every other pair, I decided to elevate them using pastel acrylic paints.
What you’ll need:
Something denim
Acrylic paint
Paint brushes
Paint palette for mixing
Steps:
Lay a pair of jeans on the floor. Remember to put something underneath the jeans so you don’t get paint on the surface you will be painting on (I used Trader Joe’s Shopping Bags).
Mix your paints to get the exact color you’re looking for before painting on the denim.
This is the fun part… start painting!
Always apply a second coat after each section is completely dry.
Wait until the jeans are dry and you’re ready to wear! The paint on my denim dried in approximately 20 minutes.
Tips for washing painted denim:
Acrylic paint does not easily come off of clothing. However, it is important to take extra care when washing painted denim in order to protect your pants to the fullest. If spot cleaning is an option, use a wet cloth with detergent on the affected area. Alternatively, hand-washing with mild detergent in cold or warm water is recommended.
Styling
I chose to paint a fun floral print with pastel colors on my old Zara jeans for a funky Springtime style. I chose to go with a basic nude corset top and kitten heels for an elevated look.
