All Things Timeless, Chic, and Feminine with Maeve Stier
We interviewed Boston-based style blogger Maeve Stier to get all of her insider tips on incorporating romantic, feminine pieces into any wardrobe. Read about how she got started with blogging and how the vintage aesthetic has inspired her style when it comes to fashion and interior design.
How did you get started with blogging?
Very slowly! I’ve always been interested in style and I had the idea for my blog in high school, but I didn’t actually create it until about five years later. I was living in New York City at the time and I got to the point where I felt like if I didn’t start the blog then, I never would. Sometimes I wish I’d had the courage and drive to start it sooner!
We’re so obsessed with your romantic, feminine aesthetic. Where do you draw inspiration from when it comes to your style?
Thank you so much! I’m constantly seeking inspiration wherever I can find it, but I’d say my number one go-to source is editorial content in magazines. I still have subscriptions to a few different publications (my favorite of which are Vogue and Porter) and I love their fashion spreads. Even if they aren’t my style, I love seeing how they put the looks together as well as how and where they’re shooting the outfits.
If you could choose three timeless pieces that every girl needs in their closet, what would they be?
A white top with a pretty design element (think: something with ruffles, lace, or puff sleeves), a nude or neutral-colored bag, and a pair of embellished heels. That last one is especially key, since they never fail to be a great conversation starter!
Currently, what are some of your favorite brands to shop?
I find a lot of my favorite pieces at H&M, Revolve, Shopbop, and & Other Stories. If I’m in the mood to splurge, some of my favorite higher-end designers are LoveShackFancy, Needle & Thread, Misa Los Angeles, and Zimmermann.
What are some of your favorite trends right now?
How do you incorporate vintage-inspired elements from high-end designers and more affordable brands into your style?
For me, it’s all about finding something that feels timeless. All of the pieces I wear are feminine and contemporary, but I look for colors, silhouettes, and fabrics that I’ll want to wear again and again - regardless of current trends. It’s also easier to incorporate that sense of timelessness when some of my favorite contemporary designers, including brands like LoveShackFancy, are heavily inspired by vintage pieces!
Speaking of vintage, your Boston apartment is absolutely beautiful. We love that you’ve incorporated a mix of vintage and affordable pieces. Do you have any interior design tips for anyone moving into a new space?
Thank you so much! My best piece of advice is to have a rough sense of how you’d like the space to be laid out before you move in. I have a few precious vintage pieces passed down from my grandmother (including my beloved tufted pink chair), so I thought of where I wanted to put those items first and then went on to find other furniture and decorative elements that would complement them. My favorite corner of my apartment is now the corner where that pink chair sits, next to the 9-foot tall mirror and gold floor lamp I found to go alongside it.
