Six Tips To Kickstart Your Workout
AN INTERVIEW WITH MADISON @HEALTHBYMADS
If you don’t already know of @healthbymads, or Madison, she is a friend of mine who has an amazing health and fitness account on Instagram! Recently, I have had trouble motivating my workouts and decided to ask her some of the best ways to get myself moving. I thought these tips would be valuable to a lot of people, so I wanted to share them here!
Find the right mindset
This is often times the hardest part and may even take the most effort. Madison recommends finding what works for you: “Everyone is so different. Figuring out what works for you is key. For me, sometimes just watching fun Tik Toks in the morning puts me in a good mood and wakes me up which gives me the energy I need to start my workout. Other people may have to dig deeper, so it’s just a matter of knowing what works for you.” I love this advice because I think everyone should enjoy their workout and finding what is your motivation will put you in the right groove.
2. Music that gets you going
The right music can make or break your workout. Here are Madison’s top songs that are motivating her right now:
After Party by Don Toliver
Can’t Say by Travis Scott
Second Emotion by Justin Bieber
3. Switch up your workouts
Madison’s favorite kind of workout is HIIT because it is dynamic and gets her whole body moving. Madison admits running can be boring for her at times, but other times she finds it actually therapeutic and will run with no music or listen to a podcast! “It’s a time to think and be in touch with your thoughts time with your thoughts”
As for online apps/ workouts, Mads loves to watch HIIT Youtube videos, Melissa Wood Health Workouts for pilates, and Peloton for a variety of workouts (plus they’re having a 90 day trial…)
4. Stay Accountable
Working out with a friend is key for a lot of people Madison finds having a workout buddy is amazing if you have trouble committing to more routine workouts. Recently, I have started a daily Facetime workout with my boyfriend using an app and it has really helped me stay accountable and has been fun to workout.
5. Listen to your body
Madison’s favorite kinds of workouts are HIIT. Although, because they can be so intense on your body, she knows to just listen to her body and how she feels to dictate her workout. “I used to plan all of my workouts at school, Monday: arms, Tuesday: legs, etc., but now that I am less busy, I can really be in touch with my body and listen to what workout I should do that day which has resulted in more enjoyable workouts.”
6. Know what’s real
The last thing that is important is not getting too caught-up with Instagram. “Sometimes seeing influencers or people online can be hard because you feel you may be eating the same or doing the same workout as them, but not look the same. It is extremely important to remember everyones’ bodies are completely different and different foods and workouts will have varying effects on different people”
