How To Show Your Friends You’re There For Them… Even in the Q
The world is super scary right now, and most people are quarantined separately from their friends. This is a time when many people are feeling really isolated, and don’t have the support network of their friends that they normally have. It’s important to stay connected with friends for your own mental health, but also to check in on those that you care about. Here are a few ways you can show your friends that you’re there for them, even if you can’t be with them.
Call
We all have some extra time on our hands now that plans are cancelled and there’s no commute added to your day. Take that extra hour or two to give your friends a good, old-fashioned phone call. The added pressure of video can sometimes mean you’re not in the mood to FaceTime. But, if you pop in your AirPods and call a friend while you’re cleaning your kitchen or going for a walk, you can feel like that friend is right there with you.
Zoom
Schedule a Zoom call with a group of friends, and create a theme. A happy hour Zoom call where everyone has a cocktail in hand is always fun. Or, create a slideshow of trivia questions or “most likely to” prompts. Or, try one of our favorite games, Psych, which is an app that lets everyone type an answer to a funny prompt, and then pick whose answer is best. Regardless of what theme is chosen or game is played, group Zooms will help you stay connected with your friend group.
Mail them Something
Whether it’s a handwritten letter, simple card, or a care package, receiving something in the mail will definitely show your friends how much you care about them. When putting together a care package, it’s more meaningful to include little thoughtful items like their favorite snack, printed photos, a notebook that’s their favorite color, or even a homemade friendship bracelet. They’ll know not only that you’re thinking about them, but really there for them in this insane time.
