‘For The Girl Who Does It All’
This is why I love writing for C&W.
I’ve always loved writing in all the varied and wonderful forms it takes. Greeting cards, class notes, recipes, stories, poems, etcetera. Yes, even the dreaded English essay assignment was a new and exciting way (most of the time at least) for me to show off my skill, talent and genuine enjoyment of various topics.
Flash forward to the middle of the first semester of my senior year, October 2020. In my University of Delaware email inbox sat an email from the administrative assistant for the university’s fashion department with an announcement about a job opportunity of sorts. As someone who finds herself eager for any type of opportunity within the world of fashion, I clicked on it immediately. Inside provided my very first glimpse at a wonderful and brand-new online magazine, our beloved CLOTHES & WATER! After doing my research, I decided this publication, designed for the veritable “girl who does it all,” sounded like the perfect place for me to begin a new type of writing experience, professional and published. I took a chance, sent in my resume and some writing samples and, lo and behold, here I am 7 months later, happier than even to be part of something as special as this magazine.
CLOTHES & WATER has given me the most wonderful of chances to expand my creative repertoire issue by issue, allowing me to write the kinds of things I never saw myself ever writing on a professional scale. I’ve been given the freedom to conceptualize my very own article pitches whereas in a different setting at another magazine, I might simply be told what I’m going to write, no questions asked. Natalie x 2 and Bridgid have such marvelous ideas for issue themes and are the sweetest and most understanding bosses any writer could hope to have. I know I’d have never thought about writing an article on New York City’s plethora of architectural styles, borough by borough, were it not for the Of the Arts issue or a list of the best Victorian homes in the United States.
So, on this most momentous occasion of our little magazine’s first birthday, I just want to take a moment to reflect on what a journey this has been so far and look forward to what lies ahead. Thank you, dear readers, for your continued support, we’re so very grateful for each and every one of you. I hope you’ll join us in our birthday celebrations and maybe gain a bit of perfect party inspiration yourselves.
Xoxo,
Matea
