No Heat Summer Beach Waves

After scrolling through countless hours of Tik Tok during quarantine I recently stumbled upon the hairstyling side of Tik Tok. I’ve seen hair braiding tutorials, hair coloring tutorials, and even a “How To: Curl Your Hair with a Bathrobe Belt” tutorial! Then I found out about this technique of “hair plopping” which is viral on Tik Tok right now. I attempted the “plop” - which is essentially tying all your wet hair up in a cotton t-shirt on your head instead of a terry cloth towel – however it was a fail for me. I woke up with soaking wet hair and didn’t feel the curls/waves I got from it were nice by any means. Tik Tok was definitely a jumping board for me to execute my perfect beach waves. Don’t worry, there’s no “plopping” necessary in this tutorial.

Follow these steps to get a no heat beach wave look!

Step One

Gather your materials! For these beach waves, you’re going to need a plain cotton t-shirt (the cotton t-shirt mimics a microfiber cloth), a hairbrush (my favorite hair brushes of all time are Wet-Brushes), and the Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk (this enhances all hair types’ curls beautifully). The last product here is completely optional, but I have very knotty hair due to dryness and coloring so before I brush my hair I usually put in a leave-on conditioner. This one is from AG Hair Care makes my hair so soft and smells delicious!

Step Two

Dry your hair with the t-shirt, getting all the excess moisture out. After I get most of the moisture out of my hair, I apply a dime-sized amount of leave-on conditioner.

Step Three

Brush your hair out as usual!

Step Four

Next, put a small amount of the Shea Moisture Curling Milk in your hand and lathered it between the two. Then, with the Curling Milk on both hands, start scrunching your hair for that wave effect. Flipping your head so all your hair is in front of your face is the best way to “scrunch” and gets the back as well as the front. If the wet hair look isn’t right for you, you can add a diffuser attachment to your blow dryer to help the curls dry faster.

This is the finished product of my hair! I love how this beach wave style helps revamp my naturally dull hair for the end of summer!
