The New ‘Fashion Capitals’ of the US

From sunny, beachy, surfer LA to hustling, trendy NYC, these two places have been the two main fashion-forward capitals of the US for decades.

These coastal cities both represent very different American lifestyles, but also fashion trends and brands. LA has its celebrities, surfers, fitness enthusiasts and dreamers who all influence the city’s constant ebb and flow of trends. NYC is home to NYFW and the young Carrie Bradshaws trying to make it big in the fashion industry, rocking cool streetwear and sleek blazers. However, these fashion-forward cities are gaining major competitors. The pandemic brought about lots of changes, one of these being more people moving out of highly populated covid hot spots like NYC or LA, and moving to smaller cities or suburbs to create their own fashion hubs elsewhere.

Here is our list of the new “Fashion Capitals” of the US:

Nashville, TN

Despite Nashville’s musical reputation, the city does offer other important contributions like delicious barbecue, and also fashion. Nashville has been rising in popularity and sharing its southern, but equally fashionable, side to the country. Nashville’s style is evolving away from the classic cowboy boots fashion staple to something a bit more modern while still staying true to their southern roots. Popular styles include lots of denim, printed dresses, wide brim hats, fringe details, and chunky jewelry.

Miami, FL

Miami is home to beautiful beaches, a vibrant party scene, as well as a mix of cultures and people that all come together to create the city’s unique style. From flowy, beachy silhouettes to neon color palettes to co-ord sets, Miami offers a host of new trends where it is encouraged to be a bit bolder and more colorful with your style.

Austin, TX

Austin is another southern fashion hot spot. Many fashion brands like like Kendra Scott and Stitch Fix are starting to reside in Austin. Like the city’s TexMex food, their fashion also mirrors this multicultural idea with southwestern style influences combining rural and hippie. Wide brim hats, maxi dresses, boots, layering necklaces and snakeskin prints form this city’s iconic Texan style.

Seattle, WA

Home to the original Nordstrom and Starbucks, Seattle creates a mix of cozy and trendy. This area of the US does get the most rain, so, besides the necessary rain boots, the city also presents an edgy style including graphic tees, flannels and mom jeans.

NYC and LA will always be cities to seek style inspiration from, but it is comforting to know that other cities can also be seen and appreciated for their own unique and fashionable contributions.
