Creative Gifting During COVID

COVID is still very much rearing its devil horns, and the personal and financial repercussions are heavy.

Entering into the season of giving can feel like a necessary light that we are all craving, but it can also add even more stress to our otherwise stressful lives. 2020 has taught us what Tim Gunn coined in Project Runway -- make it work! In an effort to stay consistent with the rest of our pivots this year, our gift giving can be a bit more creative than in years past.

Here are 4 ways to save money while still being thoughtful with gifts this holiday season:

Be resourceful!

Find a deck of cards or buy one at your local convenience store and write 52 reasons why you love someone.

Get artsy!

Write a poem or a story, sing a sentimental song, or recreate an old photograph as a drawing or painting. If you’re lucky enough to have a creative significant other, pull a Seth Cohen and recite their work to them on Christmas morning. Need inspiration? Watch Seth’s cheesy CW moment on Youtube.

Create a memory box!

Find old photos or knick knacks that remind you of the person you are gifting. They’ll most likely love to cringe at old hairstyles and stop to tell a detailed story behind the photograph.

Invest in the mini!

Buying someone a full-size product can be pricey, so look for travel or tester-sized items. It is a fun way to trial some new beauty products! You could collect a few small items of a brand you know they love or something trendy that they’ve been wanting to try out without actually purchasing the full item.

Like everything in 2020, we are forced to prioritize what really matters. Gifting this year is no different. Opening a present that requires effort, thought, and time can be more beautiful than any materialistic item anyways. Try to push your creative side a bit this year and go out of your comfort zone!
